As you will be aware Storm Babet has produced a period of very heavy rainfall across Suffolk, resulting in some widespread flooding of roads and making some routes impassable. A Major Incident has been declared by Suffolk Resilience Forum, and people are being asked not to travel unless essential. Read the press release regarding the Major Incident declared on our website here.
For those who have ventured into an office today and may be preparing to leave work to go home, please check your route before setting off to ensure it is free of flooding and safe to use.
A list of known locations where there is severe or impassable flooding is available on our website here https://suffolk.gov.uk/about/storm-babet. We are working with Police to close roads that have severe flooding, however we encourage you to be cautious when travelling and do not travel through floodwater.
If you are driving home, please heed the warnings from Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service and drive according to the conditions. Motorists are advised to drive with caution due to the heavy rain and keep alert for surface water, keep headlights on and increase distance from the vehicle in front and be prepared to back off if visibility gets worse.
For those using public transport, please check with your bus or rail provider to see what impacts, delays or cancellations may be in place.
Please get home safely.
