What are we telling you about?
Our work to cut in-channel vegetation from the Chediston watercourse, at Chediston and Linstead Parva.
Where is this happening?
This work will be taking place From Linstead village Hall to East end of Chediston Playing Field, covering approximately 4km of watercourse.
When is this work starting?
Work on site is planned to commence during February / March, work will last approximately two weeks, and however timings are subject to weather conditions and incident requirements.
What will we be doing?
We will be removing vegetation from the channel using hand-held power tools, working within the channel, and channel side.
Cut material will be placed on adjacent banks to degrade naturally.
Why are we doing this work?
We are carrying out this work as it helps to maintain the flow conveyance of the watercourse.
We will use what is known as a ‘meandering cut’ to comply with environmental legislation. By cutting the vegetation in this way we are able to preserve a certain amount of plant life for the benefit of the local environment. This helps to maintain the channel width, improve the flow, and reduce silt build up.
This method also helps the river to flow when the river is at its highest (during times of heavy rain) whilst providing small areas and still water refuges, which are important for wildlife reliant on this type of aquatic habitat.
How will this work benefit you?
This work help to keep the river channel in the best possible condition to continue to protect people, property and valuable agricultural land from flooding whilst also improving the habitat of the river.
